Everyone Will Be Treated With Respect

Sheriff Ryan Norman defended the actions that cost McCracken County taxpayers $100,000, harmed a pregnant woman, and endangered her unborn child.

“He’s a young deputy. He’s proactive. He’s good at his job,” Sheriff Norman stated.

 “Proactive”?
The non-combative mother — and her unborn child — were not committing crimes before or while pinned beneath the deputy’s weight. Watch the video:

What can be questioned is the judgment of leadership that defended these actions.

This incident began as a simple taillight stop.

I ask voters to remember this moment at the ballot box — because this could have been your daughter, or your mother carrying you.

• All deputies will be required to obtain Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) certification.
• If a deputy causes harm to a citizen, that deputy will be held accountable for ensuring medical care is provided.
• As stated in my campaign contract, crimes committed against citizens — including by deputies — will be treated as crimes and addressed accordingly.

The case involving Deputy Jon Hayden, who forcefully face-planted a non-combative pregnant woman and placed his full weight on her back during a taillight stop, was settled out of court for $100,000. The physical harm caused to the woman and her unborn child far outweighs the financial cost to taxpayers.
